Tonic is creating vibrant and inclusive urban LGBT+ affirmative retirement communities where people can share common experiences, find mutual support and enjoy their later life.

Tonic was founded in 2014 to fill this gap. Working with our LGBT+ communities - we are proud to be a community-led not for profit organisation.

Tonic is a Community Interest Company, our community purpose is to play our part in postively reducing the social isolation and discrimination that research has shown is feared and often experienced by older LGBT+ people, by creating great places to live in later life.  Our Community Panel directly informs and shapes our work.

Tonic has learned from similar projects across the globe and we are now working to create urban LGBT+ affirming retirement communities in the UK through partnership arrangements with housing and care providers. We have been working on several opportunities in London (take a look at our site specification) and we are now linking with local projects in other UK cities through our consultancy.

Tonic is currently funded by a consortium of charitable trust and foundations, who have an ongoing social investment interest in our work.

Being connected to others is fundamental to a happy later life. We must create places and spaces that enable all generations to feel they belong to their communities and that encourage people entering later life to remain active and connected to others. This will become more important as older generations become more diverse and traditional family structures become less common”
